BEDDING AND SEALING FITTINGS AND HARDWARE

PREPARATION OF STEEL, GRP, FRP, CARBON FIBER, ALUMINUM AND PAINTED DECK SUBSTRATES

  1. Mark and mask the substrate perimeter of the fitting or deck hardware with a good quality smooth painters tape,
  2. Abrade the contact substrate surface area with a fine sanding pad, (100 grit), or red scourer pad,
  3. Brush or vacuum clean the substrate removing all dust and debris,
  4. Clean the surface with a 100% alcohol cleaner or Methylated spirits using a clean, lint free cloth.

PREPARATION OF TIMBER DECK SUBSTRATE

  1. Mark and mask the substrate perimeter of the fitting or deck hardware with a good quality smooth painters tape
  2. Abrade the contact substrate surface area with a sanding pad, (80 -100 grit),
  3. Brush or vacuum clean the substrate removing all dust and debris,
  4. Clean the surface with a 100% alcohol cleaner or Methylated spirits using a clean, lint free cloth.
  5. We recommend in critical oily timber areas to seal the timber with Fixseal Epoxy Fix1060

PREPARATION OF FITTINGS AND DECK HARDWARE

  1. Mask the fitting or deck hardware area not to be scratched, and to keep excess sealant away from it.
  2. Abrade only the contact surface with a fine sanding pad, (180 grit), or a red scourer pad.
  3. Remove and dust or debris.
  4. Clean the surface with 100% alcohol cleaner or Methylated spirits using a clean, lint free cloth.

APPLICATION OF Fix15 (paintable) and Fix8 (not paintable)

  1. Apply the adhesive sealant Fix15 or Fix8 to the deck, and into the fixing screw holes, in a continuous line of the required thickness, Usually a continuous adhesive sealant run around the perimeter and continuously around each screw hole, or bolt penetration is ideal. (we do not recommend a full surface application, it takes to long to cure).
  2. Press the fitting into position.
  3. The fixing screws should be tightened sufficiently to pull the fitting or deck hardware down so that both surfaces are in contact with the Fixtech adhesive sealant, leaving about 1-2mm in thickness of Fixtech but no more.
  4. Use a plastic spatula to remove the excessive sealant that is proud around the edges.
  5. After sealing you may use diluted soapy water PH Neutral to smooth down the exposed edge.
  6. After 24 hours the screws or bolts can be tightened to the required torque.
  7. Traces of uncured Fix15  or Fix8 can be removed with 100% alcohol cleaner or methylated spirits.
  8. Traces of cured Fix15 or Fix8 can be removed by mechanical methods.
